What are three things that you are good at?

Good at …

You are GOOD AT (doing) something because of practice.

Compare these two sentences:

  • I am good at English.
  • I am good at speaking English

The first one says you are good at a thing.
The second sentence says you are good at doing something.

good at + noun (something)

  • I am good at English.
  • He is good at Football.

good at + gerund (verb-ing)

If are describing how you are good at an action, then you use a gerund (verb-ing) after good at.
Remember in English we use the structure: preposition + gerund
(good at + gerund)

  • I am good at speaking English (good at + gerund)  gerund = verb-ing
  • He is good at playing Football

Before good at you can also use an adverb to give more detail:

  • They are very good at negotiating.
  • He is extremely good at making people laugh.

When you add an adverb + good, you can often change them for a more specific word:

  • They are great at negotiating.
  • He is brilliant at making people laugh.

You can also you good at in a negative form: I’m not good at…

  • I’m not good at getting up early.
  • I’m not good at rugby.
  • I’m not good at decorating cakes.

We can also use good at in different tenses.

  • I know I will be good at…
